Master Diablo 4 Ascension Gem Farming with U4GM

Chasing Gems used to feel like a side effect of running dungeons. In Season 14, it can become the reason for the run. Nightmare Ascension Sigils turn a normal grind into a chain where you can steer rewards instead of hoping the next chest behaves. That matters when you're short on one colour of fragment or trying to finish a Grandiose Gem. A good supply of D4 items helps, sure, but the real win is being able to target the materials your build actually needs.

Set up the Ascension route

Start with an Ascension Sigil, whether it's Endless Gate, Forgotten Ruins, or another version you've converted through the Horadric Cube. The first dungeon is only the opening step. Before you push ahead, open the Nightmare Dungeon Skill Tree in the Activities Menu and spend points on the Branch Path Node. Skipping that node is the mistake a lot of players make. Without it, you get one destination and no real choice. With it, several Horadric Portals can appear after a clear, and each one previews what's waiting inside. Keep the routine simple.

  1. Run the current Ascension dungeon and complete its objective.
  2. Check every portal's listed affixes before entering one.
  3. Pick the reserve that matches the Gem fragments you're missing.
  4. Clear the next dungeon, collect rewards, then continue the chain.

Read the portals, not just the dungeon name

Portal choice is where the farm starts paying off. An Emerald Reserves portal is useful when emerald fragments are the bottleneck; Ruby Reserves does the same job for rubies. Don't get distracted by the location name alone. Sunken Bastion, Goar Ruins, and similar stages are just the map you'll be clearing. The affixes tell you why the run is worth taking. Extra bonuses can make one option much better than another, especially when you're also after Coins, caches, or more map coverage.

Portal affix
What it gives you
When to take it
Emerald Reserves
Targeted emerald fragments and Gems
When emerald upgrades are holding you back
Ruby Reserves
Targeted ruby fragments and Gems
When you need ruby crafting materials
Ancient Coinfall
More coin-related drops
When Gem needs are already covered
Horadric Caches
Extra reward containers
When you want broader loot value

Keep the loop going

Once you enter the chosen portal, its selected modifiers apply to that Ascension level. Kill through the pack density, finish the objective, and grab the fragments and completed Gems at the end. It's not complicated, but it's a lot less random than ordinary dungeon farming. When your available Sigils run low, convert standard Nightmare Dungeon Sigils at the Cube and start another route. That repeatable setup lets you stockpile materials over long sessions, while D4 items cheap can cover gaps between upgrades and keep your character ready for the next climb.
